Perhaps overlooked by the average tourist, the adventure seekers who make an in dept research of Philippine islands destinations always find this gem and probably keep it for themselves as their new found secret paradise.

Nothing much has changed in the rural areas of this province, from the days I frequent it with my family as a kid in the 60s to the present. Except of course the population got bigger. A testament to the fact that the destinations here still remains untouched by commercial tourism. Travelers still enjoy it in it's pristine natural state. Abaca and copra still remains as major crops here.

Celebrated annually in June is the colorful Pili Festival of Sorsogon city. It showcases the Pili which is indigenous to the Bicol Region. A pili nut, when deshelled can be eaten as is. Better than almonds, it is also made into different kinds of pastries and candies. The pulp or fruit meat is also eaten locally after being immersed in hot water to make it soft.

Another festival is the Kasanggayahan Festival which is celebrated in October. The Butanding Arribada Festival in Donsol is for the celebration of the arrival of the Butanding or Whale Shark in March. Ginubat Festival is celebrated in the municipality of Gubat in June. Other festivals in the province are the Padaraw Festival of Bulan and the Hin-ay Festival of Irosin.

Attractions and activities in the province include Whale Shark watching in Donsol, trekking in Bulusan Volcano and Bulusan lake, and off the coast of Matnog are islands where there are white sand beaches, black sand beaches and even pink sand beaches. Popular activities here are island hopping, scuba diving, snorkeling, sport fishing, and simply swimming or beach combing.

Other destinations in the province are the beaches in Bacon district, San Benon Hot and Cold Spring Resort in Irosin, Namuat Waterfalls in Casiguran, Bulus Spring in Irosin, Mapaso Spring also in Irosin, Rompeolas in the city of Sorsogon. The province also prides itself of the freshest fish and shellfish, because of it's abundance.
