Puerto Galera and It’s Diverse Attractions

Puerto Galera is a first class coastal municipality on the northern tip of the island province of Oriental Mindoro. Popular among local and foreign tourists because of it's diverse attractions, beaches, nightlife and excellent dive sites, it is also an affordable vacation destination the budget minded traveler will surely love. Travel time from Manila is between 4 to 5 hours by bus and then by boat via Batangas City.

Sabang beach and white beach are the two most frequented beaches where activities like swimming, camping , snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sport activities are popular among the tourists. Puerto Galera is also known for it's world class dive sites, but not to be overlooked are the dozens of other beaches and bays as well as the waterfalls and mountains that this amazing destination has to offer.

Sabang may not be ideal for beach swimming but the many restaurants, along with a variety of pubs, souvenir stores, and dive shops make up for it. Bar hopping is another favorite among the tourists and locals during the night. West of Sabang are the beaches of Small La Laguna and Big La Laguna which are ideal for beach swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving because of it's pristine clear waters and white sand beaches. Getting to these beaches normally takes about 15 to 20 minutes of walking from Sabang.

Other beaches include White Beach, Aninuan Beach, Talipanan Beach, Coco Beach and over a dozens more. Perhaps the trick to enjoying the beaches here is to go beach hopping until you find one that suits your taste. A quiet more relaxing place can be found in smaller coves where there are lesser people or no people at all. If you are an avid diver, then this is the place and it will not disappoint. Other activities available here are mountain trekking, checking the waterfalls, and enjoying the scenery.

Accommodation in Puerto Galera is relatively cheap and is ideal for travelers on a budget. There are also plenty of moms and pops type of accommodation and a decent meal in a restaurant is in the 200-300 php range per head. Open air bars, girly bars, and karaoke bars fill up the active nightlife especially during weekends in the drier parts of the year.
