Philippine Holidays as Celebrated by the Filipinos

Philippine Holidays are the best time for Filipinos to have some good time and spend it with love ones. For many it is a time for a family get together and spend the holiday whichever way it suits them. These days are special because Filipinos value their time away from work. The Christmas and New Year holidays are perhaps the most celebrated ones nationwide and no Christmas is livelier than a Philippine Christmas Holiday Season.

The National Holidays in the Philippines are:

Jan 1 New Years' Day - Regular Holiday. After a busy new years' eve, New years' Day is spent by most to going to love ones, visiting friends, and going to parks. This is the best time to be with love ones since most business establishments are closed for the holiday.

Feb 25 EDSA Revolution of 1986 - Non-working Holiday. The EDSA revolution day is a Philippine Holiday which commemorates the 1986 People Power Revolution against the Marcos Regime in which his dictatorial government was toppled and democracy was restored.

March or April Maundy Thursday part of Holy Week - Regular Holiday. Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday is in observance of the Last Supper.

March or April Good Friday part of Holy Week - Regular Holiday. Observance of the crucifixion and Death of Jesus Christ.

April 9 Bataan and Corregidor Day - Regular Holiday. Commemorates the fall of Bataan and Corregidor during world war 2 to the Japanese Imperial Forces. Some 76,000 American and Filipino allies surrendered to the Japanese which was followed by the infamous Death March.

May 1 Labor Day - Regular Holiday

June 12 Independence Day - Regular Holiday. This holiday commemorates the Philippines' declaration of independence on June 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines.

August 21 Ninoy Aquino Day - Special Holiday. Death anniversary of Benigno S Aquino Jr.

August's last Monday - National Heroes Day.

November 1 All Saints' Day - Special Holiday. In remembrance of love ones who past away. Filipinos go to the burial grounds of their loved ones to offer prayers. A festive atmosphere in the cemeteries all throughout the Philippines.

November 30 Bonifacio Day - Regular Holiday.

December 25 Christmas Day - Regular Holiday. Christmas Day celebration

December 30 Rizal Day - Regular Holiday. Death anniversary of the Philippines' national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

December 31 - New Years' Eve Holiday - Special Holiday. Merry making time in the Philippines while awaiting the arrival of the New Year. Parties and fireworks at night through midnight in celebration of the coming year.
